Meet Mebus Behrle Whiting, sustainability consultant and style maven (my words, not hers). Mebs has an amazing eye, which has undoubtedly been refined due to her years spent traveling the globe (after completing Semester At Sea in college she went on to live in London for grad school — why wasn’t I that smart??). She now lives in San Francisco with her husband (but is never home for too long in between trips). Read on to learn more about Mebus and her travel style…

THE SET (as in, jetset) is a blog series that gives a peek into the travel styles of the jetsetters we adore and admire… Because we’re all a little voyeuristic sometimes – and who isn’t looking for a little distraction right now?

NAME:  Mebus Behrle Whiting / @maybooberlay
OCCUPATION: Sustainability Consultant
HOME AIRPORT: SFO
ASTROLOGY: Taurus
AISLE OR WINDOW: Window
CARRY-ON OR CHECK: Really try to carry-on
LUGGAGE: Tumi Aluminum International Carry-on. Mine isn’t too banged up yet, but as it is inevitable for aluminum to get dented I’m starting to cover it with stickers from my favorite places, and the wheels roll like butter – SO smooth!
CARRY-ON ESSENTIAL: Always bring my large reusable water bottles (I like Swell or Yeti). Whenever possible I try not to add to my plastic consumption. It is reported that, “one garbage truck of plastic is dumped into our oceans every single minute.” So every bit helps. Also, on long flights when my face tends to get dry, I bring the Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Face Mask with me – it works like magic and smells like heaven.
TRAVELING SHOES: This summer I was wearing my loafers (similar to these) a lot which were comfy and easy, but in colder months usually Keds, Soludos, or boots
CAFFEINE FIX: Cappuccino
MOVIE OR BOOK: Both
SIGNATURE COCKTAIL: Dirty martini w/ blue cheese olives or lychee juice and vodka on the rocks
UNPACK OR LIVE OUT OF SUITCASE: Unpack (if there is time)
ALWAYS PACK: Cashmere sweater
ALWAYS FORGET: Socks and phone charger
SOUVENIR: Hat that goes with the vibe of the location
ROOM SERVICE ORDER: Chicken fingers (so refined 🙂 )
EXERCISE ON THE GO: If this even counts – walking most places so that we can explore the area and get a feel for the places I want to check out.
GUILTY PLEASURE: Massages and constant fancy cocktails whenever accessible
PRO TIP: Try not to pack more than you can carry – it makes everything much less stressful. And, Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Face Mask.
BOUTIQUE HOTEL OR SLAVE TO POINTS: Doesn’t really matter – whatever makes sense at the time.
CITY OR COUNTRY: BOTH!
MOUNTAINS OR SEA: Sea
OCEAN OR POOL: Ocean
WINTER IN: Love Sun Valley, Whistler, or Paris because it’s festive but not too cold!
SUMMER IN: VERY hard to narrow down but, I love the summer time I spent in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, Fort de Marmi / Lucca, San Sebastian, Wyoming, and Maine.
FAVORITE AMERICAN CITY: Kennebunkport, Maine
FAVORITE INTERNATIONAL CITY: London

DINING EXPERIENCE (NIGHT): Night markets of Jemaa el-Fnaa in Marrakech. Hotel Costes for dinner (especially the time we after we got engaged). Mister Parker’s at The Parker Palm Springs tasting for our wedding (not only did we get to try every food item on the menu but we got to try every drink on the menu as well…). Fresh fish we caught and grilled in Mauritius. Traditional Japanese restaurant in Tokyo for dinner with locals that we had met in Vietnam and reconnected with in Japan – lots of fresh fish, lots of sake and lots of laughs while sitting on the ground. Sketch London.
DINING EXPERIENCE (DAY): Lunch at… The Beverly Hills Hotel. The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus San Francisco (not a hotel, but feels like one). Lauterbrunnen Switzerland, after a long hike up the mountain.
