Arbiter Insider’s Guide: Jaclyn Mason x Deer Valley

The plus side of a never-ending winter like this one? Spring skiing!

From December through March (or this year, April), our bestie Jaclyn Mason — aka @jaclynjm — is more likely to be found hitting the slopes in Deer Valley than at home in Santa Monica.

Get the DL on DV below with Jaclyn’s Arbiter Insider’s Guide

First stop off the plane: Cena at The Chateaux (across from Deer Valley’s Silver Lake Lodge) has a great bar. I always end up there on the first night to grab a glass of wine and one of their yummy flatbreads. Most nights there’s live music too!

Signature drink: Did someone say HOT TODDY?! Make sure to order it with High West whiskey, which is made right there in Utah (see below)!

Local flavor: If you decide to take a day off from skiing, take in some local flavor with a visit to the High West Distillery & Tasting Room about 30 minutes outside of town. Here you can take a tour of the distillery, learn about the whiskey making process, and, most importantly, taste the whiskey! Another fun local activity is the Park City Last Friday Gallery Stroll on Main Street. This only occurs on the last Friday of each month, so if you happen to be in town then it’s a great way to enjoy the local art scene.

Can’t miss: Champagne sabering at The St. Regis! Every evening around sunset The St. Regis has their nightly champagne sabering ritual. It’s a fun way to take in the sunset and enjoy a glass of bubbly!

Stay at: There are a ton of options in Deer Valley, but one of my favorite places to stay is the Stein Eriksen Lodge. Its cozy environment makes you feel like you’ve transported yourself to a ski chalet in Switzerland. Other benefits: ski-in/ski-out with ski butler service (I mean…), plus they have a great spa. And did I mention it was voted the World’s Best Ski Hotel?!

Best après: Stein Eriksen Lodge: If it’s not too cold, ski right up to the deck, where you can post up at one of the fire pits complete with an expansive view of the mountain. Make sure and order the pretzel that comes with this insane mustard dipping sauce. Don’t be afraid to order extra! High West Saloon: Best hot toddy in town! It’s almost always crowded, but so worth it if you can get a spot! The St. Regis: For the aforementioned champagne sabering!

Shop at: Gorsuch: From high-end skiwear to crystal stemware, go here if you feel like splurging! Park City Mercantile: Super cute store that has a little bit of everything — think candles, handmade pottery, accent pillows, blankets, handmade jewelry, etc. Flight Boutique: My favorite clothing boutique on Main Street! Mountain Town Olive Oil: Located at the bottom of Main Street, this place has the best olive oil and balsamic that come in a ton of flavor combinations. Bonus: you can sample as many of them as you want when you’re at the store!

Most worn item: I take advantage of any excuse to wear fur. So if I’m not on the mountain in ski gear you’ll most likely find me in a fur jacket!

Uniform (Day): Ski gear to hit the slopes.

Uniform (Night): Fur jacket, sweater, jeans, snow-friendly booties.

Insider tip/local secret: Blind Dog is one of my favorite restaurants in town! Located away from Main Street, it’s a go to spot for locals and seasoned visitors. What people may not know is that they have a great happy hour from 5-6 pm. Order the Bad Ass Tater Tots, Dirty Brussel Sprouts and Firecracker Roll!

Most ‘grammable: The Veuve Yurt (aka The Après Lounge) at the Montage = Insta-worthy. But between the mountains and Main Street, the ‘grammable options are endless!

Carry-on or check: Check. Between the ski clothes and [did I mention] the fur jackets, a checked bag is really the only way to go.

Souvenir: I’ve eaten some of the best lunches at the Deer Valley lodges. And lunch is never quite complete without one of their huge signature cookies. Trust me once you’ve had one, you’ll understand! To make sure I can get my fix when I’m not there I always buy the cookie mixes they sell at the Deer Valley Signature Stores. And don’t worry if you forget to buy the cookie mix it’s sold online too!

Next on my bucket list: Getting back up to DV!
