Meet Emily Landers, the host of one of my favorite podcasts, How’d She Do That?. If you haven’t listened, you must – think Second Life, but with all the cool girls you know from Instagram! Each episode brings on a different female entrepreneur, and Emily is such a pro at interviewing and getting them to share different insights on their stories and career paths. It’s super inspirational and interesting, and she has the best guests.
When she’s not at home in Malibu (or her original home, Texas), she’s traveling. Prior to launching the podcast, Emily spent almost a decade working in social media for luxury boutique hotels, so we knew we wanted to hear from her on her travel style.

BEAUTY/SKINCARE MUST: Previous HSDT guest, Sarah Brown, has the best skincare products! I love her Rosehip Cleansing Oil for Sensitive Skin.
UNIFORM: Heading somewhere warm I have learned my lesson to prepare accordingly! I wore my favorite thick Free People set to Tahiti and when we landed I couldn’t believe I had done that to myself! As we head to France this summer, I will be layering! I always find that to be the most helpful tip – to layer on the flight and discard or place in bag as needed. I always have to have pockets with zippers as I like to keep my AirPods, and ticket or passport close by!

SOUVENIR: We love bringing home art and plates! We are at a stage of life that we really value souvenirs for our home. It’s the best way to recall precious memories in our daily lives.
ROOM SERVICE ORDER: Ohhhhh! I love an omelette in the morning and depending on where we are a basket of baked good are always welcome!
EXERCISE ON THE GO: Yes! I love to walk anywhere and everywhere! It’s a bit exhausting for my husband 🙂
GUILTY PLEASURE: Anything peanut butter and chocolate!
PRO TIP: Use Instagram as a tool of inspiration and seeing where you may want to visit! I often find friends or people I follow on social media who are on trips I am taking and love to click on their locations and gage how far it is from my favorite hotels, check out reviews, etc. You can find the coolest places from doing so!
TOXIC TRAIT: Not checking photos after my husband or a stranger takes them – when someone hands my phone back I put it in my purse only later to see a thumb was covering us on the Spanish Steps! I definitely need to take time to double check for memories sake!
BUZZ-WORTHY: The market is filled with female-founded brands and businesses that I love! You can find many of them on my podcast as guests or sponsors. Supporting small businesses has become a passion of mine that really came to full fruition during 2020 – what’s cooler than knowing your favorite designer personally? In my opinion, not much! 🙂

HOTEL STYLE: Very much depends on where we are! I love the beauty of Hotel Eden in Rome, the chic details at Villa Cora in Florence, and the glamour of Grand Hotel Tremezzo on Lake Como. We’re headed to Eze, France as well as Saint Tropez this summer and we’re staying at a hotel that is a previous chateau with very refined French style. I love it all!
NEVER GETS OLD: Boutique hotels 🙂
DREAM TRAVEL COMPANION: My twin sister
CHILDHOOD TRAVEL MEMORY: My family has been fortunate to head to Estes Park every summer for the last 25 years. We stay at a beautiful dude ranch above Estes and it’s home to us.
WINTER DESTINATION: Malibu – 20 minutes from home!
SUMMER SPOT: Italy & French Riviera
FAVORITE AMERICAN CITY: Washington, D.C. with my husband; and Dallas, Texas for my nephew!

MOST MEMORABLE: Kayaking in Tetiaroa behind a stingray was a memory I’ll never forget as well as paddle boarding next to a sea turtle in Maui! Memories with animals are always vivid and easy for me to recall. Simply love.
DESTINATION WITH KIDS: Hopeful my nephews will join me in Malibu soon!

ON MY RADAR: Eze, Monaco, Cannes, Nice, St. Tropez! We’re hitting them all this summer and I can hardly wait!
BUCKET LIST: A safari in Africa! My mom, dad, and brother have all been so it’s time myself and my twin sister join them!
TOP TRIP: The Brando simply can’t be beat.
